    A divine vision and
    the spiritual conviction
    for creating bright futures.

In 1987 God placed a burden on the hearts of Jerry and Sandra
Thornton for generations of children of all nationalities destined
to failure due to the lack of a strong academic and spiritual
foundation. Read how they heeded His call…

For over twenty-five years,
Children for Christ Academy
has been a pillar in the community
and well known throughout
the region for excellence for
Christian childhood development,
spiritually and academically.

In 1987, after years of entertaining thoughts of opening a daycare center, Sandra Thornton had a vivid dream that she had indeed started one. Nights later, while praying for God’s guidance on a business matter, God spoke to Jerry Thornton in an audible voice and said “I told you to open a nursery.” Mr. Thornton woke Mrs. Thornton, shared what God had said, and together they focused all efforts on starting the daycare.

Their desire was to start a Bible based Christian school that develops the whole child, spiritually and academically. God even gave them the name for the school “Children for Christ Academy” a bold name that left no doubt as to what the school stood for.

This was a true test of faith: Because the school’s name mentioned “Christ” in it, that violated the “Separation of Church and state laws” enforced by the government, precluding them from acquiring an SBA Loan (small business) they needed to secure a building for the school.

The Thorntons were even told that if they changed the name of the school that funding could be provided. Not willing to compromise the name of Christ, funding was sought in the private sector but to no avail.

One evening while driving down Panola Road Mrs. Thornton noticed a “For Sale” sign in front of a small house. They approached the owners and worked out the financing details and on July 1, 1988 the doors of Children for Christ Academy, Inc. were officially opened.

Since then, God has honored the Thornton's commitment to His purpose by blessing Children for Christ Academy’s growth, enabling them to expand to serve even more children in grades K5 through 6. In 1998, they acquired more land and erected an all new Academy building. The campus continues to grow. The “Old House” has since been demolished, but its legacy lives on as a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

Children for Christ Academy is living proof of the sovereignty of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and how His will is still being performed through ordinary people who believe and trust in an extraordinary God.

Our Mission

Our mission is to be a part of the solution.
We want to instill the loving values and qualities of Jesus Christ
into the hearts of every child who enters our Academy.
Proverbs 22:6 states, "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is older he will not depart."
Our children are gifts from God and should always be treated as such.
